Intellectual Property Management Examples
Professional Development & Training
Sahale Consulting works with clients worldwide to enhance their capabilities in managing and deploying intellectual property assets. For our client in Southeast Asia, we developed a customized training program with the goals of 1) positioning a nine-member IP management team for advanced licensing certification; 2) improving their management of non-patented technologies; and 3) embedding new approaches to moving innovation into action into daily practice. The outcomes of the engagement were reflected in both individual certifications and improvement in unit key performance indicators.
Technology Evaluation and Market Fits
On a number of projects, we have worked with clients in conjunction with their internal teams to evaluate technologies, their fits with markets both previously envisioned and those unforeseen, and strategies for further development, deployment, or divestment. Strategic Planning and Execution Examples
Internal Venture Development Funding
When promising innovations don’t fit neatly into existing pathways for translation to marketable products or services, some organizations fund further development through internal venture funding. In this project, Sahale Consulting has provided planning and execution for a restart of an existing client venture funding program, as well as on-going fund advising and management support. Evaluating past performance against client goals, we provided changes to the competitive program’s format, required content, and evaluation process. We worked with the client to pilot the program, analyze outcomes, and iterate changes in new funding rounds. To address program weaknesses, we are currently working to implement complementary approaches to internal funding including leveraged co-funding with capable partners.
Strategic Planning Support
Sometimes project timelines and internal resources are tight, requiring added executional support. In a project for a non-profit, Sahale Consulting helped support the completion of a 5-year strategic plan, working with the Executive Director and others to assemble core project documentation, resource requirements, and associated priorities for Board review and finalization.

Rethinking External Partnerships
Unless the goal is to be a fast follower, doing the same thing as everyone else doesn’t change an organization’s competitive positioning. In this project, Sahale Consulting helped our client analyze current research performance strengths and weakness, their underlying unit financial performance, and provided benchmarks for evaluating new approaches against their competition. We outlined strategies and tactics that would enhance outcomes at the unit, division and corporate levels, while providing opportunities to gain competitive advantage and create new revenues through strategic positioning.
